INTRODUCTION
The following are the results of a survey sent in 2015 to ISDA Members, and Secure Transportation practitioners. The survey was also posted in selected Social Media Groups. A similar survey was conducted in 2013, and when applicable, a comparison will be made to the 2013 survey.
Practitioners who participated in the survey represent the Corporate, High Net Worth, and Private Security communities. Many of those that participated in the survey are not actively engaged in Social Media and are connected to ISDA Network. We conduct the survey every two years.
THE NUMBERS
Since 2013 there has been an increase in the number of participants that have more than one vehicle in their fleet. This is due to corporations using a combination of SUV’s and Sedans for executive transportation. Because of dual usage at times the percentages will equal more than 100%. This is the case for the “Type of vehicle used for work”, the 2105 numbers show that 74.3% are using SUV’s and 55.7% are using Sedans. In 2013 the Type of vehicle used was split evenly between SUV’s and Sedans – both registered approximately 50%. SUV’s are becoming the go to vehicle for Executive Security.
The Use of Armored Vehicles
In 2013 15.5% of the vehicles driven by the Survey Participants were armored, in 2015 that number jumped to 22.9%. Close to a quarter of the participants are driving armored vehicles. Not indicated in the survey (we did not ask the question) was how many rent armored vehicles. That question will be asked in the next survey.
An Explanation of the Results
In 2013 we ISDA reported the results of the survey – we got inundated with angry comments based on the selections. They communicated that the numbers must be wrong because their vehicle is not in the results. They were convinced that their XYZ vehicle is the best executive vehicle available. They very well may be correct. BUT the survey asked what vehicles do you use to supply Secure Transportation, NOT what vehicles are the best for Secure Transportation.
THE RESULTS
When combining all vehicles (Sedan, SUV). The most used vehicles are a Suburban followed by a Mercedes S Class. As an indication of the change to SUV’s, in 2103 two of the top 5 vehicles used were SUV’s in 2015 four of the top five are SUV’s

The most common SUV is the Suburban. But there seems to be a change coming. In 2013 the Suburban dominated the field. In 2015 the Suburban is losing ground to other high end SUV’s, specifically the Denali.
